Privacy Policy — Zubaan
Zubaan is an offline AI subtitle studio for Android, published by Arinverse.
The short version
Zubaan has no accounts and no sign-in. Every video you import, every transcript it writes and every caption you style stays on your phone. We cannot see any of it, because none of it is ever sent anywhere. The app is built offline-first on purpose — importing, transcribing, styling and exporting a video all run using on-device speech models, not a server we operate.
The app does reach the internet for a small number of specific, one-off jobs — described in full below — and, if you choose to subscribe, Google Play Billing handles that payment directly; we never see your card or payment details.
What the app does with your video
When you import a video, Zubaan reads it from your device's storage to extract its audio and to show you the frames you're captioning. That video, and the audio taken from it, is processed entirely on your device — by an on-device speech-recognition model, not a server. It is never uploaded, and no copy of it or its transcript is transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Exported videos (with captions burned in) are written to your device's storage or handed to Android's share sheet when you choose to share or save one. Once exported, that file is yours and is no longer managed by the app.
What the app stores on your device
- Projects — the video reference, transcript, word timings and caption styling for each project you create.
- Language packs — the speech-recognition model files for whichever languages you've installed.
- Settings — your chosen languages, caption style preferences and app preferences.
- Exported files — videos you've exported, written to your device's storage so other apps can open or share them.
What the app downloads
The only network requests Zubaan makes are these:
- Language packs. When you choose to install a language, its speech-recognition model files download over a plain HTTPS connection from the model hosts we use. This is a one-way file transfer — no personal or usage data is sent as part of it, and it only happens when you ask for it.
- Checking for a metered connection. Before starting a language-pack download (typically 70–240 MB), the app checks whether you're on Wi-Fi or mobile data, so it can honour the Wi-Fi-only download setting. This check stays on the device and sends nothing anywhere.
Transcription, styling, diarization (telling speakers apart) and export never touch the network at all, and work with no signal once a language pack is installed.
Subscriptions
Zubaan offers a 14-day free trial, after which continuing without ads requires a subscription. Subscriptions are handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We never receive or store your card number or payment details — Google processes those under its own Privacy Policy. We only learn whether you have an active subscription, not how you paid for it.
Zubaan does not currently show third-party ads. If an ad-supported free tier is introduced later, this page will be updated first with a full breakdown of what the advertising provider collects, in the same detail as our other apps' policies.
What we do not do
- We do not operate a server that receives your videos, audio or transcripts.
- We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Permissions the app requests
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
READ_MEDIA_VIDEO / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE |
To read the video file you choose to import. READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is
only requested on Android 12L and older, which don't have the newer, narrower
media permission. |
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
To download language packs when you ask to install one, and to check whether you're on Wi-Fi or mobile data first. Not used for anything else. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS, FOREGROUND_SERVICE,
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC |
So a language-pack download or a transcription run can keep going, with a progress notification, if you switch to another app while it works. |
Children
Zubaan is a general-purpose creative tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Because the app holds your data only on your own device, you already have direct control over all of it: delete a project inside the app, or uninstall the app to remove everything it stored, including every downloaded language pack.
Depending on where you live — under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act in India, or state privacy laws in the United States — you may also have rights concerning any data Google holds about your subscription, which are best directed to Google directly, since they, not we, hold that data.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date. Material changes affecting how the app handles your information will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
